His background
At a young age (8 years old) I already met Jesus. I grew up in a Christian family. This sequence is important because without this encounter I would not have been a Christian. But because I did, growing up in a Christian family has been a blessing. So I do not have a cool story on how I came to conversion but I do have a cool story on how you can have a relationship with Jesus Christ having over 33 years of experience.
Since 2004 I have been married to my wife Marlous. She has her own story and together we have dedicated our life to the kingdom of God. We have two teenage children which brings both challenges and freedom. Having roughly 20 years of experience in teenage and youth work we secretly find joy in it though. At the moment we have dedicated ourselves as pastors in the Pentecost church Rafael Oase Arnhem.
My daily job is working as a manager of innovative software products within manufacturing companies. In this environment understanding is a very important factor to function and at the same time I seeking the challenge to connect with people on a feeling level. Definitely not easy and a lovely tension I have been struggling with all my life. In my experience it is in this tension where I meet God.
Hearing the voice of God has always been a theme in my life. At young age I was baptized with the Holy Spirit and received special gifts. At the age of fourteen the voice of God and the reality of it really got hold of me. This radically changed my life and resulted in radical choices in my life. If I would not have been obedient I would not have lived in Arnhem and would not have been married to Marlous and definitely not have led a church.
And that is the essence in my life. Be obedient to God and accept the challenge to understand his will in whatever form it is presented. At the same time I would like others to taste the different way of living without being obtrusive. Therefor most people know more about sports which is also an important factor in my life. I am a passioned runner and combine this with climbing, race cycling, skating and different power trainings. In this way I combine the spiritual and physical endeavors and enjoy all the lovely relationships God has given me.
